How to Restore Documents?

Documents on your device are automatically saved by default. If you change or reset your device, there are four ways to restore your documents.

🔸Restore from the Trashcan

Best for recently deleted documents or folders (within 7 days by default).

  1. Go to Settings > Trashcan.

  2. Select the document(s) or folder(s) to restore.
  3. Tap "Restore" at the bottom right.

📝 Restore behavior:

  • Documents only → Choose a folder to restore into.
  • Folders only → Restored to the main screen.

Trash Retention Settings

Deleted items are kept for 7 days by default. Upgrade to Bronze / Silver / Gold to change this setting:

  1. Go to Trashcan > Settings.
  2. Choose a retention period:

Immediate, 1 day, 7 days (default), 14 days, 30 days, 60 days, or Never

🔸Restore with an iCloud Backup

Best for restoring your entire device and DocScan data in one go.

  1. Back up your old iPhone and restore it on the new device.

  3. During setup, make sure to select “Restore from iCloud Backup”.

⚠️ Do not select “Set up as a New iPhone”. See step 5 of the tutorial

Important Notes:

  • iOS restoration has two phases:
    1. System restore + app re-download
    2. App data restore from iCloud/iTunes
  • Large amounts of scan data may take longer. You may see the app before all data is restored — avoid opening it too soon to prevent missing files.

🔸Restore from Cloud Backup

Requires a Silver or above subscription and previously created backups.

  1. Tap "Backup" on the bottom left of the main screen.

  2. Tap "Restore Documents", or go to Settings > Restore from Cloud Backup.

  3. Select a backup version.

  4. Choose whether to restore specific files or all files.

  5. A progress icon will show the restore status.

It may take several minutes for large scan volumes.

🔸Restore with Backup Tool (Support ended)

This tool is no longer supported, but still works if previously purchased.

  1. Go to Settings > Backup and Restore.

  2. Tap the "Export" icon on the top right.

  3. Download the Backup Tool to your PC/Mac.
  4. Tap "Start Backup" to begin restoring.

  5. Choose to restore selected or all files.

  6. The icon will display the percentage of progress.

Large backups may require several minutes to complete.
